At Oakboro Family Dentistry, we offer two options for removable aligners: Invisalign® Clear Aligners and Inman Aligners™. Invisalign straightens all your teeth, which means it’s a good fit for mild or more complex orthodontic issues. Inman, on the other hand, only straightens the teeth that show. It’s also a good choice if you’ve had braces before and your teeth are starting to shift back. How do you get the most of your clear aligners?
Wear Them for the Recommended Length of Time
For your clear aligners to work, you need to wear them for a certain length of time each day. Invisalign should be worn 21-22 hours a day. Inman aligners are worn 16-20 hours a day. If you want the best results, wear your aligners for the longest recommended time. When you remove them for any reason (like eating), set a timer so you know how long they’re not in your mouth.
Keep Your Aligners Clean
Because aligners are so clear, they can become foggy if they’re not clean. Unhygienic aligners are also unpleasant to wear. You should at least rinse your aligners every time you remove them. When you clean them more thoroughly, use lukewarm water and clear antibacterial soap. Hot water will warp the aligner material.
Stick to Your Aligner Schedule
As your teeth straighten during the clear aligner therapy, you need to get new aligners. If you have Invisalign, you’ll likely need to switch them out every two weeks or so. With Inman, you need to visit our office and have the aligner adjusted every 2-3 weeks. The exact schedule depends on your treatment plan, so once you know what that plan is, keep track of it. Sticking to the schedule ensures success.
